What does canine tumor gene testing look for?
It detects variants in 154 cancer-related genes (SNV/Indel, copy number variants, amplifications, fusions), covering key tumor pathways including RTK, MAPK, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, DNA damage repair, cell cycle, and mismatch repair — adding a molecular decision dimension for recurrent, metastatic, refractory, or limited-standard-option cases.
What samples are needed? Can paraffin blocks be used?
Tumor tissue is preferred (surgical or biopsy samples, including qualified FFPE blocks or slides after assessment); fine-needle aspirates are accepted on a case-by-case basis (cell content, tumor cell ratio, and preservation must be assessed). Dogs that already had surgery can use paraffin blocks for DNA testing — the most common way paraffin blocks deliver value.
When is gene testing appropriate?
For recurrent, metastatic, refractory, or limited-standard-option cases; cases where treatment decisions are debated after surgery; and cases that want "one more information dimension" for decisions. Testing does not replace pathology, imaging, staging, or clinical judgment.
What does the report contain?
Six modules: sample quality, key variants (gene/type/functional impact/evidence tier), diagnostic associations, prognostic information, treatment directions (potential drug classes, pathways, and evidence sources), and limitations.
What do the A-D evidence tiers mean?
Results are graded by evidence strength: Tier A (strong direct canine evidence, 16 genes) → Tier B (moderate canine evidence, 27 genes) → Tier C (comparative oncology support, human tumor + pathway extrapolation, 95 genes) → Tier D (exploratory evidence, 16 genes). The earlier the tier, the stronger the canine clinical evidence for the drug direction; human databases serve only as auxiliary interpretation — they do not equal canine approved indications, nor do they guarantee drug efficacy.
Is this cancer screening?
No. This is a pan-cancer molecular test for already diagnosed or highly suspected cancer cases. It cannot diagnose cancer on its own and is not for early screening in healthy dogs.

How is it related to the mRNA immunotherapy?
RNA sequencing is the core of the personalized mRNA immunotherapy IIT (≥50G ultra-deep, for neoantigen analysis); enrolled cases receive a targeted drug guidance report regardless of whether neoantigens are found, as a guaranteed deliverable. The standalone gene testing service (154-gene panel) serves a broader clinical population and is independent of the mRNA study.

How do I read the Cancer × Gene × Drug reference table?
The table lists the most common driver mutations per canine cancer type and the corresponding drug directions (e.g., mast cell tumors frequently carry c-KIT mutations, pointing to KIT inhibitor class), with evidence tiers. It answers "what directions does this cancer type usually have" — not "this dog definitely carries this mutation". Tumors of the same type can differ between individuals; the actual test report is authoritative. Drug use is decided by the veterinarian with evidence tier, pathology, and clinical judgment.
I already have a paraffin block from surgery — can I still get sequencing?
Yes. A paraffin block confirms "what cancer it is" — and DNA testing can still unlock molecular treatment clues from it. "Block-based sequencing" is exactly the typical path for dogs that already had surgery. Note that blocks support DNA-level analysis; RNA-level information (such as gene fusions) requires fresh tissue — if fresh tissue was properly preserved on surgery day, more options remain open.
